Remember: Your domain is your Email too

The pandemic has forced more and more businesses online, but even if you haven’t set up a webpage yet, you are almost certainly using email for business correspondence. Have you thought about how the email address you use reflects on you and your business?

To start, don’t use a free email address for your business. Using a Gmail account makes your business look unprofessional.  Everyone knows that a new Gmail account can be set up in a matter of minutes. At best, it makes your business seem small, at worst it makes you look like a fly-by-night operation that could disappear tomorrow.

Most domain registrars have cost effective email only options if you aren’t ready to setup your website yet. We do recommend at least getting a one page website up as soon as possible though.

If you’re choosing a new domain, simpler is nearly always better. You will probably find yourself relaying your email address over the phone quite often and a difficult to spell domain is going to lead to misdirected or bounced emails.

If you’re using a newer domain extension like .top or .click, your emails may not even be delivered at all. Some new TLDs have been exploited for sending spam.  In response, some IT managers have been blocking all email coming from those extensions. There are some good extensions out there, but consult that list and remember that most people still default to .com or your local country code (.ca, .de, .com.au, etc).

Your email address is often one of the first exposures a customer has to your brand. If you’re ready to upgrade your domain (and your email), DomainAgents is happy to help.
