1st Asheville Domain Investor Meetup

Earlier in the month, Rich Schwartz hosted his 1st Asheville Domain Investor Meetup. Domain investors gathered in Asheville, North Carolina from August 1st-3rd to share their visions and talk domain names. The theme of the event was “Acceleration” and how they “accelerate the use and understanding of Domain names”, according to Rick’s post. Overall, it seemed that the event was a successful one with sponsors such as Fabulous.com present, although the sponsors weren’t the main focus here. Attendees found that the timing, venue, and format were well-planned and executed, and it looks as though there may potentially be another meetup to look forward to!

Upgrading Domains

Whether a company is changing directions completely, or evolving beyond its current scope, it’s important for growing companies to find a suitable domain for their next big step.

A company that previously operated as Jane.ai recently secured Capacity.com. The company offers a “secure, AI-powered knowledge sharing platform designed to help teams do their best work,” according to their website. David Karandish, CEO of Capacity, published an article where he discussed their rebranding journey and also announced that the company successfully raised $13.2M for their Series B financing round.

In another upgrading story, Hippo Insurance, who has been using MyHippo.com has acquired Hippo.com, which now redirects to MyHippo.com. A wise choice for the growing home insurance company which has reportedly raised over $200M in funding.

Bitcoin and Blockchain buzz

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency are still buzzworthy, and Bitcoin.com has written quite an article on how cryptocurrency domains are faring. The article goes through the change in demand of crypto-related domains, and is definitely worth a read for those interested in the space.

Blockchain also continues to be a trendy topic, and Alibaba is getting in on the action! The company has filed a U.S. patent application for a blockchain domain name system. It will be interesting to see how combining blockchain technology with domain names affects the industry.
