Rebrands and Upgrades:

There are a number of companies that make the decision to upgrade or rebrand, usually when their offerings change or evolve beyond the scope of what they used to do. This usually comes with a domain name upgrade to get the domain that matches their new identity. Why is this important? A great domain is easy to remember, a clear reflection of your company (on-brand), and contributes to generating business. It’s generally advisable to avoid domains that may confuse or alienate prospective clients.

First up, we have Extend.com (previously operating under HelloExtend.com), a San-Francisco based startup that “provides extended warranties as a service to merchants and reinvents the broken customer experience associated with them”. They’ve requested to keep the sale price confidential, so while we don’t know how much the domain was sold for, it does look to be a smart acquisition for the company.

Next up is Woven.com, previously known as Woven.app. Woven is “an intelligent calendar to manage your schedule and get the most out of your meetings”. In this podcast, Tim Campos, former Facebook CIO, discusses the company’s 5-figure acquisition, and why he thought it was worth the premium digital asset.

Finally, there’s Datasafe which has rebranded to Destruction.com. When the business outgrew its primary focus of shredding documents, they turned to a new name that reflected their company’s growing brand and offerings.

PIR .org price hikes?

News regarding PIR and potential .org price hikes has resurfaced. It seems people have a lot to say on the topic. The company is hopping aboard the rebranding train by changing their domain to TheNew.org, and they’ve revamped their old logo to a shiny new one as well. CEO Jon Nevett explains this is a temporary move, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes next.

September Sales

The weather may be cooling down here, but there are still some hot domain sales worth mentioning this month!

Early in September, DNJ’s Ron Jackson reported that Sadhu.com sold for $35,000 USD. The week after, a .org won out over .com’s as GrowingPower.org took the top spot that week selling for $45,999 USD. But .com’s show they’re still the king, with LifeForce.com taking back the crown for the week with a sales price of $70,000 USD

Here’s to an outstanding October!
