February News Roundup: GoDaddy Acquires Uniregistry, Asheville 2.0, and More on Price Hikes

Another month of 2020 has passed and March is just around the corner!

We kicked off February with a beloved tradition – Groundhog’s Day! While there were some mixed results, we’re surprised to see that we may just be in for an early spring.

Besides the possibility of an early spring, February brought on plenty of other interesting news, including updates about upcoming events and surprising consolidation (yes, it’s GoDaddy and Uniregistry).

Verisign expecting at least $1.125B revenue this year

Things are looking pretty good for Verisign! It appears as though the .com registry is expecting to generate  $1.250 billion to $1.265 billion in revenue in 2020, compared to $1.232 billion in 2019 – and this is without the potential .com price hikes.

Asheville 2.0?

In 2019, Rick Schwartz hosted his first domain investor event in Asheville, North Carolina. Unfortunately, it looks as though the event may be delayed due to recent events. We’ll have to wait and see if anything changes in the next few weeks or months. Fingers crossed!

GoDaddy acquires Uniregistry

One of the biggest stories of the month was undoubtedly GoDaddy’s acquisition of Uniregistry, announced on Feb 11th. There was a fair amount of coverage on this groundbreaking update.

Here are the highlights:

Uniregistry is looking forward to joining GoDaddy, furthering its quest to build a company of permanence and value.

DNJournal’s Ron Jackson also commented on the blockbuster acquisition, which includes GoDaddy’s acquisition of “Uniregistry Founder Frank Schilling’s entire Name Administration domain portfolio of more than 350,000 domains.”

DomainNameWire provided some insight what the acquisition could mean for domain investors in terms of competition, buying opportunities, and data.

If you can’t get enough of the news, check out what other domainers had to say on the topic.
