Upcoming Domain Events

Domain names are an integral part of the world wide web and attending all of the key industry events and conferences will truly take you all over the world.  Here’s just some of what’s happening over the rest of 2019!

NamesCon Europe – Cascais, Portugal – June 20-22, 2019 – The European branch of the NamesCon show is a smaller, more intimate affair, and more focused on domain investors.  This year’s event takes place in a stunning looking venue and is just a few days before ICANN 65 if you want to do a 2-for-1 trip.  Tickets are currently 549 Euro, but it’s not unusual for discounts to be offered if you subscribe to the NamesCon mailing list or regularly read domain blogs.

ICANN 65 – Marrakech, Morocco – June 24-27, 2019 – This ICANN meeting is focused on policy discussion. We expect that there will be lots of discussion about the WHOIS and GDPR as well as the recent proposed domain registration fee hikes.  There is no cost to attend this or any other ICANN meeting.  You can learn about more about ICANN from our previous blog post.

Rick Schwartz’s 1st Annual Asheville Professional Domain Investors Meetup – Asheville, North Carolina – August 1-3, 2019 – Long time domain investor and founder of the TRAFFIC domain conference, Rick Schwartz, is hosting his first meetup in years for a small number (around 70) of domain investors.  The meetup is now sold out, but you can contact Rick and apply for a ticket.

ICANN 66 – Montreal, Canada – November 2-7, 2019 – ICANN’s Annual General Meeting takes place in Canada this year.  The AGM will have hundreds of sessions and is meant to showcase ICANN’s work to a broad audience.  This event will cover a lot of ground.  You can expect a preliminary schedule about two months before the meeting.  Again, there is no fee to attend.

NameSummit – New York City, USA – Fall 2019? – The NameSummit Facebook page has been teasing the announcement of their next show.  NameSummit combines domain names and larger topics including branding.  In the past it has attracted a diverse crowd and is a good excuse to spend a few days in NYC.

It’s too late to attend, but the Global Digital Summit is taking place right now in China (May 31 – June 1, 2019) and other potential unannounced events include a new Merge show in Orlando, Florida in the Fall.

There are no dates yet, but the next NamesCon Global is set to take place in Austin, Texas in 2020.  It will likely be around the same time as past shows (late January) and we expect there will be more details during the European show.  After over half a decade in Las Vegas, it will be exciting to see what sort of energy and crowd a new location can bring.

June 13 Update: It’s been announced that NamesCon Global will take place from January 26th to 29th, 2020 in Austin, Texas!

August Update: NamesCon Global has changed it’s dates to January 29th to February 1st, 2019.
