Voice.com Domain Sold for $30M!

What a month for domain name sales! MicroStrategy, a publicly traded company, has just announced that they have sold Voice.com to the startup company Block.one for $30 million.

Block.one says they acquired the clearly valuable domain name to use as “a blockchain-based social media application” that will be free of bots and the other ills that plague established social networks like Twitter and Facebook. The website on Voice.com is already live and you can request beta access to their new social network.

To our knowledge, this is one of the highest domain name sales to date, with PrivateJet.com selling for $30.18 million and Tesla.com being acquired for $11 million.  What’s also notable about this acquisition is that it is a cash deal. Often large deals such as this involve stock or creative payment terms.

While this deal is making headlines inside and outside of the domaining world, most record breaking sales are never reported due to NDAs or one of the parties not being interested in the publicity.  Microstrategy appears to be using this sale as a way to drum up interest in their other premium domain holdings like Strategy.com and Hope.com, and Block.one is obviously interested in getting as much attention as possible for their new site.

One reason that buyers use DomainAgents is that we allow both parties to negotiate confidentially. If you’re looking to make your own stealth acquisition, we’re happy to help.
